Name: Garfield (Gar) Logan Door: Door Pass - Submissive. Canon: Titans Canon Point: Post-end of season 2 Age: 17 (estimate) Appearance: Ordinary form; Mid-shift form; Tiger form; Snake form. History: Wiki link. Personality: Friendly: Gar's life, to date, has been somewhat lonely. He originally travelled widely with his parents, and after their death and his own survival, he was brought to live with the Doom Patrol in Ohio. With them, he was well provided for - he had everything that he needed, but he was lonely, longing to be part of the world and not hidden away from it. He was willing to break Caulder's rules to sneak away, but the speed with which he befriended Rachel was evidence of how much Gar wanted there to be more to his life. He is a person who always tries to be nice, kind and empathetic towards other people. He's quick to comfort Rachel, Conner, and (as far as he'll let him) Jason, when circumstances get them down. He was quick to help and be protective towards other people even before he saw it as his 'job' as a Titan. While this is generally a positive attribute, it's also a negative in that it leaves Gar open to be taken advantage of by other people. An example of this is the ease with which Jason is able to manipulate him into disobeying Dick's instructions. Gar comes across as being hungry for friendship, and is in the habit of reaching out to the people around him. His default mode towards new people tends to be friendly and kind, as shown when he goes out of his way to help Rachel whom he barely knows. Optimistic: Gar is extremely optimistic, able to find the silver lining to even the most difficult of situations. This makes him notably resilient; when Dick reveals the truth of his history with Jericho, Gar is the only member of the team who doesn't walk away, and who still believes in what the Titans are doing. Even when left alone in Titans Tower with the sleeping Conner, Gar keeps his head up and insists to himself that things will get better. He expresses the belief that the others will return once some time has passed and they remember the importance of helping people. While this plays into Gar's general naivete, it also showcases that staying positive is important to him. He deliberately tries to be a positive influence on the people around him, and is quick to encourage Rachel, Conner and Jason when they express negative views of themselves. He is notably the only member of the team who does not succumb to his own personal dark side under Trigon's influence, a fact that Rachel later uses to help him break free of his medically-induced brainwashing by Cadmus. Gar is the kind of person who wants to maintain a positive outlook, and may even see it as his role to do so when most of the others around him struggle with negativity. Naive: Gar's naivete is his strongest negative trait. He can come across as innocent, particularly by comparison to the other young Titans on the team (with the exception of Conner). He's the most light-hearted among them, and tends to be very open and friendly, and prone to using humour. He's in awe of superheroes in general; he recognises them by their costumes, and knows most of their callsigns, coming across as a fan. It might be assumed from Gar's general attitude that he hasn't seen much of the world, which is not untrue - he spent large portions of his childhood travelling with his parents, and then after their loss, was kept largely inside in Caulder's home. This means he's somewhat sheltered by comparison to the others around him. Gar tends to be quick to trust, immediately bringing Rachel home with him despite barely knowing her, and being willing to leave with her, Dick and Kory despite having only just met them all. When he's first introduced, he's surprised at being asked whether he's ever killed anyone as a tiger, instead saying that he's never even bit anyone. His use of his powers appears to have been solely for his own personal enjoyment; while he's been sheltered, he's also been kept safe. Gar is trusting to a fault; he's easily manipulated by Jason, and even when every other Titan leaves, he holds to the belief that they'll return because the work they do as heroes matters so much. Gar has an elevated view of the people he's around; his friends will surely not let him down, and people who take on the mantle of superheroes will surely not turn their backs on their work. He holds to this belief even when he's seen considerable evidence of the opposite from the people around him. Yet, when this happens, Gar also forgives them with relative ease. Towards the end of season 2, he is kidnapped by Cadmus, the group of scientists who cloned Conner, intending for him to be sold as a weapon. Through physical surgery and psychological conditioning, they are able to install in Gar a trigger that makes him lose control of himself, sending him into a rage that makes him attack and kill multiple people as a tiger. This event clearly traumatises him, and he is shown upset and guilt-ridden afterwards. The extent to which this effects his naivete has not been shown; however, he was resilient enough to have bounced back from an earlier incident, wherein he attacked someone who was torturing him. While that incident upset him, it was not enough to dull his naivete as a whole. All of this means that Gar does have a significant amount of personal trauma to deal with, and there's certainly more to them than the happy, optimistic face he presents to the world. However, at heart there is an innocence and a trusting naivete to him, and it's what most clearly marks him apart from the other young Titans he was training with. Passive: Gar has a tendency to keep his negative feelings nailed down. He tends only to be vocal when he's being positive and optimistic. He's far more quiet when his reaction to something is negative, with the result that his feelings can be overlooked by the people around him. A good example of this is when Rose was brought to Titans Tower. Despite his tendency towards friendliness, he is initially on the fence about Dick's decision to bring her in - while less distrustful than Jason, he was also less immediately welcoming than Rachel, expressing concern that they didn't know anything about who Rose was or what her abilities may be. His concern may have had less to do with Rose herself, however, and more to do with his and Jason's shared unhappiness with the choices Dick was making. They had at that point spent three months training inside Titans Tower, with Dick refusing to let them get involved in helping people as heroes. Dick brought Rose to the Tower without giving Gar, Rachel or Jason any say in what he was doing, and Gar expressed that he didn't think any of them had a vote when it came to whether she stayed with them or not. The three of them were young and in training, but it was clear that their say over how this happened was limited; Dick was very much in control, and what he said went. The situation with Rose shows that Gar was chafing somewhat under Dick's strict authority, something which also happened when Caulder's rules required him to stay inside without contact with the wider world. Gar is not a loud or obnoxious person; he's generally respectful towards his elders, and was shown to be very grateful to Caulder for helping him. He's also shown to like and care about Dick; he trusts him, has a great deal of respect for his ability as Robin, and he does what he says. However, he very clearly wants more than a life of strict routine away from the world. This is something that he has in common with Jason, but where Jason is vocally aggressive about it, Gar is more passive; he's more likely to sit back and listen, and end up doing what he's told despite feeling conflicted about it. He doesn't always speak up and vocalise his opinions, and this means that more dominant personalities will generally speak over him. This can and does lead to others taking advantage of his good nature - such as when Dick leaves him alone in Titans Tower and abdicates all responsibility for him, leaving him to deal with the unconscious (and highly superpowered) Conner by himself. Reckless: While Gar can be passive, and willing to obey even when given an instruction he doesn't like, there's also a side of him that's that's reckless and rebellious. As shown above, he does chafe at strict control by other people, and he will sometimes disobey and rebel in secret. This is something else he has in common with Jason, though where Jason's rebellions are loud and demanding of attention, Gar's tend to be quiet and often solitary. The difference between them is that Jason is confrontational and wants to take a stand through his rebellions, whereas Gar is just looking for a taste of freedom. He doesn't want to be caught, even on a subconscious level; he's the kid to sneaks out when his guardians aren't looking and sneaks back before they notice he's gone. His rebellions are also, generally speaking, harmless; he sneaks away from Caulder's house to steal videogames because he's obsessed with playing them, not because he gets off on the crime. He takes a risk when he sneaks Rachel into Caulder's house; he doesn't know her well, and his actions risk the exposure of the rest of the Doom Patrol, something that greatly upsets Caulder. Gar is shown to feel bad for it and apologises, though he later rebels against the doctor again when he sees that Rachel no longer wants his 'help' with her powers. Gar may be passive, but he can think for himself. He will make his own choices contrary to the rules, and he'll act on his own sense of right and wrong even when others tell him the opposite. He's also been shown to go against the rules for fun, mostly when he lived with Caulder; he tends to treat the rules with more serious regard once he's in Titans Tower, though it's relatively easy for Jason to convince him to sneak out and chase down Doctor Light against Dick's instructions. Gar doesn't always make the best choice or the most sensible decision; part of that is probably due to his youth and inexperience, but even granted that, there's a reckless side of his personality that pervades. Powers and Abilities: During a trip to the Congo, Gar became sick with an illness that appeared to be fatal, and resulted in the deaths of his parents. He was left to die, but was found in time by Niles Caulder, who injected him with an experimental drug which cured him. It also altered Gar's body, giving him a metahuman physiology that granted him the ability to transform himself into animals. He is described as having the ability to alter his own genetic code. Animal transformation: When Gar is first introduced, he is only able to transform into a tiger, and this remains his most frequently used transformation. He is able to change at will and without pain, and he becomes a fully grown, adult tiger. He becomes the tiger completely, meaning that he gains its speed, strength and agility, as well as its powerful bite and claws. He also gains its animal instincts. Gar compares transforming to feeling he's been plugged into an electric socket, but says that it feels good. He is in control of his tiger form, and is able to understand others when transformed, but he can't talk with his human voice. He says that when he is transformed, the tiger is "not completely me...it's like I'm inside controlling it, but it has control, too". The instincts of the animal are therefore powerful, but Gar generally maintains control without a problem. The Titans' encounter with Trigon at the start of Season 2 ends with Gar transforming into a snake for the first time. This is the first and only time any other animal transformation has been shown to date; however, it is hypothesised that Gar has the ability to transform into any other animal, and that his preference for the tiger is psychological because it's his favourite animal. It is likely that as Gar practices with his abilities as part of the Titans, he will grow more proficient in their use and expand to other forms. All animal forms have green fur/scales, similar to Gar's green hair in his human form. While transforming, his skin turns entirely green, and his eyes glow green. Gar is based on the DC Comics version of the same character. Beast Boy in the comics is able to transform into any animal that he has seen, including much larger animals (dinosaurs), much smaller ones (insects) and even alien creatures. Due to his rapidly changing genetic structure, he also has an enhanced healing factor and heals more quickly from wounds and injuries than a normal person. It has not yet been shown whether the Titans version of Gar has these features, or whether his transformations are as wide-ranging and versatile - however, his powers as described so far seem to be in line with this, and so I'm including it here. If the mods were content, I would like to slowly expand Gar's range to transform into other animals through training in game. Musical trigger: Gar's ability to control the tiger becomes compromised due to the medical experiments performed on him by Cadmus. Using a combination of surgical intervention and psychological conditioning, Cadmus are able to trigger Gar's transformation and turn him violent and predatory. While triggered, he attacks and kills multiple people in his tiger form. He is healed from this state by Rachel, who uses her powers to go into his mind and make him remember who he really is. Classical music was used to trigger Gar's predatory state; it has yet to be seen whether Rachel's intervention was able to remove the trigger completely, or whether the same music would have the same results. Combat skills: Gar has spent three months in intensive training with Dick Grayson in Titans Tower. During that time he has become a skilled combatant, and is shown using martial arts and fighting with a katana-style sword. He's shown to be able to defeat a trained, armed assailant without transforming. He has quick reflexes and is reasonably flexible, appearing to handle hand to hand combat more easily than Rachel (who started training at the same time). However he is not able to beat Jason Todd on equal terms. Computer skills: Gar is shown to be competent at using computer systems, and is the main person who operates the Titans Tower surveillance system. He's proficient enough that Jason asks for his help in using the system to look for Doctor Light, rather than using it alone. Medical knowledge: After being saved by Caulder, Gar spent some time living with him in his mansion in Ohio, along with the rest of the Doom Patrol. During that time, Gar would assist the Doctor during medical interventions. Due to this, he has some medical knowledge and can perform certain procedures such as intubation. Inventory:
